ASCC’s Annual Conference is here, and I know everyone is excited about being together again as am I. As we gather for the conference, I want all in attendance to be cognizant of what brings them to the conference. The are a wide range of educational activities, networking opportunities, speakers, committee meetings, and of course, the Board of Directors meeting. I am sure all of you have your schedules mapped out for the conference, but I decided to take a David Letterman approach to this year’s conference and provide a top ten list.

10.         Come to a committee meeting and get engaged with ASCC. Committee meetings are open to attendees. Might I suggest attending the Membership Committee on Tuesday? Come listen to the exciting things going on at ASCC and what is being planned. Come and share your ideas!

9.            Stop at New Member Orientation and learn about the benefits of ASCC and how to access them.

8.            Make plans to attend the Awards Gala on Wednesday evening. There are a few changes in store for this event, and you won’t want to miss them. There are also several international projects being recognized this year!

7.            Attend the Emerging Leaders Ripsnorter! It is right after the Awards Gala, and it is a perfect way to end the evening. Come hang out with the emerging leaders and have a beverage. Share a couple of ideas and make a new friend!

6.            Start your Thursday off and attend General Session to hear Cal Beyer’s important message on how to combat opioid issues. Come early, eat breakfast, and treat yourself to an extra piece of bacon. “Life is short; eat the bacon.”

5.            Stop by the sponsors’ tables and say “thank you” for the continued support of ASCC. The ASCC loves its Associate members. Thursday and Friday are great days to let them know!

4.            Take in one of the guest speaker’s sessions. There are several to choose from, and there will be some lively discussions. Did I hear someone say Type IL PLC?

3.            Don’t miss the Shark Tank!

 2.           Take advantage of any of the extra social activities and have some fun! Might I suggest taking the Grand Rapids Art Museum Tour with Rick Lobdell? ASCC is fortunate to have an “art Master” who can share all the “tea” when it comes to all things art!

1.            See a red lanyard? Stop, introduce yourself and extend your hand. This is what ASCC is all about, camaraderie! Red lanyards signify a “new” ASCC member. Do you remember when you were a new member, and an ASCC member showed you the ropes? Of course, you do! Let’s make our new members feel welcome!

That’s my top ten list, and I hope you find it helpful as you navigate this year’s conference. If you have any extra time, take a quick walk over the Gerald Ford Museum. It is a great tribute to the 38th President of the United States. Visit the gift store and take home a bobblehead of your favorite President.
