Definitions

Concrete Polishing Tradesman is a person who has demonstrated knowledge about proper procedures to polish concrete but lacks sufficient work experience to qualify as a Concrete Polishing Craftsman.

Concrete Polishing Craftsman is a certified Tradesman and has verified work experience of 4500 hours directly attributed to surface preparation, grinding, edging, chemical application, honing, polishing, and/or polishing equipment maintenance.

Scope and Knowledge:

The primary technical resource for this program is CPC’s Tradesman Manual which is based on the test content. The test requires knowledge in the following areas of concrete polishing:

  • Planning for concrete polishing
  • Communication with concrete contractor and specifier
  • Surface preparation
  • Grinding
  • Edging
  • Chemical application
  • Honing
  • Polishing
  • Polishing equipment maintenance
  • Safety

Certification Requirements:

For Concrete Polishing Tradesman: CPC will grant certification only to those candidates who obtain a passing grade on the online examination. The two-hour examination consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. The passing grade for the examination is 70%.

Individuals with Concrete Polishing Tradesman certification can upgrade to Concrete Polishing Craftsman status upon submittal and approval of verified sufficient work experience.

Re-certification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of an examination.

For Concrete Polishing Craftsman: CPC will grant certification only to those candidates who have obtained Tradesman Certification PLUS:

Possess 4,500 hours of actual on-the-job polishing* experience. 

*Polishing experience includes concrete surface preparation, grinding, edging, chemical application, honing, polishing and polishing equipment maintenance. Verification of the work experience by the candidate's employer(s) is required. 

Re-certification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of a written examination.
