November 15, 2022 – The American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, MO in partnership with the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA), Mount Vernon, IA held its second annual Safety Summit in Albuquerque, NM, November 10-11.

Safety professionals from the concrete construction industry gathered for a safety program focused on safety and health issues impacting the industry. The program featured key-note speaker Mike Schneider, VP, Chief People Person, Baker Concrete Construction, Monroe, OH. Schneider detailed Baker’s adoption and implementation of the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) safety culture. IIF is a way of life—behavior, beliefs, values, symbols—that are accepted by all in an organization and communicated and imitated from one group to the next. He also discussed mental health issues impacting the construction trades and measures that can be taken to recognize signs of co-worker difficulties.

The program was rounded out with nine industry roundtable discussions on topics including Making the Transition from Hard Hats to Helmets, Total Worker Health, New Hire Onboarding/Orientation and Balancing Safety vs. Production.

ASCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of those who build with concrete, and to providing them a unified voice in the construction industry. Members include concrete contracting firms, manufacturers, suppliers, and others interested in the concrete industry such as architects, specifiers, and distributors. There are approximately 720 member companies in the United States and 11 foreign countries.
