This multi-faceted promenade extends two kilometers along the coast in Penang, Malaysia. Decorative concrete treatments include a scalloped border separating the fishscale portion from the beach-like sandscape, circular seating, pedestrian walkways, a “Sunbird” feature, a sculpture base and a stylized conch shell under the pergola. Two decorative pedestals covered in exposed aggregate are home to a commemorative plaque and poem. The judges admired the various textures and colors, and commented on the difficulty of installing it with no bleeding.
