Royal River Front, Salzano Custom Concrete
First Place: Cast-in-place – Stamped / Under 5000 SF

The objective was to convert a heavily wooded side yard of this A-frame mountain house into usable space that blended with local nature. The patio features a center firepit, hanging swing, enough landscape lighting to confuse the local airport (the contractor’s opinion), and a concrete combination of a wide wood plank pattern with a unique river rock pattern to add visual interest. Access to the patio was hilly and difficult. Color selection for the wood plank areas was a challenge because none of the dozen shades of brown on the color chart was quite right. The patio is at the top of an elevated area of the yard, about 12 feet higher than the terrain around the house, so a series of steps and landings to provide access to the patio were also part of the project.
